Symphony n. 2 in D Major “Romeo and Juliet”

Symphony n°7 in E Major

Conductor: Heinrich Unterhofer
Orchestra: Pomeriggi Musicali
Tenor: Giampaolo Franconi

The tragic story of Romeo and Juliet is a combination of both love story and tragic destiny. Two teenagers created for each other who fell in love at first sight. Everything fades in front of their passionate love so that they are married secretly, avoiding the impediments raised by both families. They are separated by force to be then united in the womb of earth in the eternal tomb. It is in the same time the apotheosis and the tragedy of love.

In this symphony one can find the fragrances of spring, the song of the nightingale, the lark, all which is delicate like a blooming rose, all that bears a devastating flight through life. They go over from timid expression to complete surrender and from the tumult of passion down to a mortal and sorrowful catastrophe. Their destiny explains that their love is above all burden.

I have tried to describe the atmosphere of the 14th century in Verona, anticipating the future of a blooming love. After all of these contrasting feelings what remains for us in our soul is an everlasting echoing message of eternal love translated in one symphony full of melancholy and harmony.
